About The Ksar
We partnered with a number of locals for you to stay in a Ksar in Tafilalet during your visit to the oasis and Merzouga desert. These eco-friendly clay villages built hundreds of years before to accommodate people of the Oasis and the Nomads who settled here.
The Ksar is a fortified village where some hundreds of families live in mud houses called “Dar”. They have one main gate called “Bab” and surrounded by many watchtowers to secure them from invaders in times of lawlessness or foreign invasion.
Our concept, to promote sustainable tourism in the region, consists of lodging our guests in a Dar with a local Filala family so that they have an authentic experience while they are very well taken care of.
Stay in a Ksar in Tafilalet
Tafilalet has dozens of Ksours stretching along with the farming land of the Oasis. Such architectural jewel heritage deteriorates due to migration caused by the shortage of water in the past 50 years.
By staying in a Ksar Dar you contribute directly to the preservation of these mostly 700 years old ancestral houses. We are honored to work with local organizations to promote these masterpieces of desert edifices by encouraging visits of both local and international travelers to bring some life to their souls.
The Dar is an authentic clay home with a ground floor and another one above. They all have a light well to allow air and sun to circulate within the different parts of the house.
As the Ksours were built within the Oasis, lodging in one of them allows a central location where most attractions and points of interest are reachable in a half-day trip or even walking. This is applied to the dramatic desert dunes of Merzouga and Erg Chebbi.
