Job Title: Senior Tax Accountant

Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 per year

Relocation: Not Available — Local candidates who can commute daily are preferred

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join an established public accounting firm in Farmington Hills, MI.

This is a hands-on opportunity for an accounting professional with recent public accounting experience and strong knowledge of tax preparation, general ledger accounting, and financial statement engagements. You will work alongside an experienced team of CPAs and have the opportunity to work with a variety of clients and industries while continuing to develop your career in public accounting.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals and various business entities.
• Work with tax returns including 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 990, 1041 , and related filings.
• Prepare and review financial statements, primarily compilation and review engagements .
• Perform accounting and bookkeeping activities using QuickBooks and other accounting software.
• Review general ledger accounts for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare and maintain organized digital workpapers supporting tax return engagements.
• Research and assist with complex tax and accounting matters.
• Prepare routine correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, and other client deliverables.
• Assist clients with payroll processing and general accounting needs.
• Develop an understanding of clients' businesses and industry-specific accounting and tax requirements.
• Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and service providers.
• Manage multiple assignments and prioritize work to meet deadlines and quality standards.
• Collaborate with team members and contribute to a professional and supportive work environment.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Tax, or a related field required.
• 2–4+ years of recent public accounting experience required.
• Hands-on experience preparing and/or reviewing individual and business/entity tax returns.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statements.
• Experience with 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 990, 1041 or similar tax returns.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office .
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred.
• Experience with CCH Axcess and/or CCH ProSystem fx strongly preferred.
• Experience with Axcess Engagement is a plus.
• Experience preparing financial statement compilation and review engagements .
• Assurance engagement experience is a plus.
• Experience with QuickBooks and client bookkeeping.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to take initiative.

The initial focus of the role will be on tax return preparation and financial statement engagements , with opportunities to work across different areas of public accounting and continue developing professionally.

Compensation

$75,000 – $85,000 per year , depending on experience and qualifications.
