Throughout history, the Tafilalet Oasis accumulated different civilizations from various cultural backgrounds.
Sub-saharan, Arabs, Berbers, Nomads, Jewish, and other ethnic groups passed by, lived , and settled here. Hence the amazing cultural diversity of The Tafilalet.
About Tafilalet Heritage Days
Every year in April, the Filala community from all over Morocco comes to meet, socialize celebrate, preserve, volunteer – a supportive action to contribute to the social and human development of the Tafilalet Oasis.
During these events,
Each year, the Heritage month will be organized around a specific theme. These themes will touch subjects like:
- The cultural diversity of the population of Tafilalet
- The Architecture of The Ksour
- Farming and water civilization
- The Trans-Saharan trading history and the Caravans
- Sijilmassa: The richness of an ancient lost city
- The Desert & Oasis Food
- Tafilalet: The Royal Oasis
- Food of the area
- Storytelling, Music, and poetry
- And lot more around local African, Arab, Berber, Jewish, and Nomad Heritage…
During these days in the amazing Tafilalet Oasis, visitors will also benefit from:

Aims of the Tafilalet Heritage Days
The aims of the Tafilalet Heritage Days are to:
- bring the locals of Tafilalet roots to the oasis to celebrate the richness of a great Heritage to be proud of
- raise the awareness of the Filala population to the richness and cultural diversity of the Oasis;
- create a climate in which the gratitude of the rich mosaic of Filala cultures is stimulated;
- celebrate the greater tolerance in Tafilalet and beyond in the whole region of the great southeast of Morocco;
- inform the public and the political authorities about the need to protect cultural heritage against disappearance, distinction, and new threats;
- invite the government to respond to the environmental, water, social, development, and economic challenges it faces.
